Soundtrack Stromae - Bande sonore Stromae

Time machine transports me to September 2015 at the Montréal Bell Center to attend a concert epic in its proportions of awesomeness. Any guesses? Well I guess the title gives it away but Beautiful People let me share this 2 hour musical adventure with you available for your visual and auditory enjoyment. It transcends language so don't fret if French isn't in your wheelhouse yet. I say yet because the lyrics assembled by Paul van Haver (Stromae) are a masterclass in poignant poetry. I strongly suspect that certain songs will have you deep diving into some translation and geeking out as you become a 'Francofile'. That's right I said it! I'm completely certain in fact because even as a Francophone myself, Stromae's music had me connect with my mother tongue in a way I never had before. Sure it's more Belgian, Parisien, European in its nature but it's still the language that vibrates in every cell in my body. Its musicality and poetry again captured, celebrated and captivating in the collection of songs that this artist has created. Dang! and I'm not even talking about the instrumental elements that elevate an already heightened all senses experience when in the present of Stromae.

J'essaye de m'imaginer dans la foule ce soir là au Centre Bell. Je me vois tasser avec plein de gens comme moi qui ressent la musique vibrer dans nos cellules et ce qui nous apporte à danser comme c'est électrique. Le courant qui s'installe dans nos corps dès la première chançon - c'est fini, on danse toute la soirée! Les impressions artistiques qui accompagnent la simple composante vocale élève l'expérience encore plus. En peu de temps, je me sens complètement emporter dans l'aventure multisensorielle. Même je dois à quelques reprises me fermer les yeux pour vraiment saisir les émotions qui viennent rendre leurs messages de joie, d'extase, d'humanité, de tristesse, d'épanouissement et de simple émerveillement. C'est pas possible la panopalie du mouvement qui s'évoque en moi, en nous - cette foule qui est fort présente et fortement participante avec l'artiste qui intéragit avec nous.

This artist doesn't just 'push' his content on the public. He has this magical way to elicit joyful participation and utmost engagement with his audience. Every sensory opportunity is captured and captivating. You can get lost in the visual and moments later you're deeply pondering the lyrics. Humour elevated to a sophisticated and poetic level. Poignant poetry with strong MF messages. Take for example 'Carmen',a song dissecting a certain 'Blue Bird' and the behaviours it elicits. Foreshadowing at its finest! Seriously, those lyrics are *chefs kiss on.the.nose Consummers and our addictions sharpened by social media while disguising as a tool for connection. What a farce! All those years ago this song emerged and it endures still with this bold truth. Exaggeration? Nope - an absolute visionary wrote those lyrics and let's not forget the video. Mind.blown!

Et pour les gens qui supplient: 'I don't speak French', je répond: 'Y'a un message qui transcendre la langue. La musique viens te chercher et le reste s'enchaîne. Ta curiosité te fait traduire les paroles dans la langue de ton choix et tu hoche la tête avec incroyance.' It translates, it all crosses whatever boundary or obstacle you think language might instill and you find yourself completely mesmerized. Don't believe me? Hey! that's on you 'music lover'. You can skip on to the next suggestion that crosses your rhythmic road but know that you will stumble upon this recommendation again in the future and will say: 'Dang! I wish I'd given this a chance sooner. Maybe then would I have been one of those bodies dancing, vibrating and luxuriating in awesomeness in September 2015 at Bell Center.'

Guilty - that last voice is mine. Je m'en veut de ne pas avoir embarqué plus tôt quand 'Papaoutai' passait à la radio. J'aurai dû me garocher à plein coeur dans les oeuvres de Stromae. Je m'aurai trouvé dans cette foule à Montréal. Mais bon, on arrête de puiser dans le regret, et on va de l'avant en appréciant à plein coeur qu'est-ce que Stromae nous offre. Au plaisir de continuer l'aventure qui mènera peut être à un futur concert. On verra bien. Pour l'instant on lui laisse sa place pour simplement être, pour créer et je le remercie pour ses nombreux cadeaux au monde entier.
