Okay communauté... You & Me Community

Je me promenais aujourd'hui dans mon quartier et j'ai réalisé l'impact de deux individus dans la communauté qui touche un grand nombre de gens. La première est la jubilante Rosemary qui appartient et gère le café. Femme incroyable qui acceuille une foule fort diverse dans son commerce et est abandonate en entregens. Les ados de l'école secondaire l'aime bien même s'il n'y a pas de 'Wifi' dans son espace. Imagine le scandal! Pour moi c'est son sourire qui rayonne et son coeur qui déborde d'enthousiasme. Je l'apprécie énormément car depuis plusieurs années son espace est un de nos endroits préféfés.

Rosemary would probably balk at being called such an important figure in our neighbourhood but I know many would agree at bestowing her with that title. Quick with a smile and a sassy remark, this lady is an absolute jewel. Do you have someone like that in your area? I think this summons an even bigger question, are folks even living in their neighbourhoods or are they principally just shuttling in and out of their houses without actually building community? It's a fair question because of the lasting impacts of the pandemic sequestering us indoors and social norms turning us inwards rather than outwards. I recognize that my extroverted personality has me interacting with people when the opportunity arises. Also, having a dog to walk gets us out and about. But what gets folks really settled and engaged in building community?

Je pense à un résident qui a une pencarte qu'il change à tout les jours avec une nouvelle farce pour ceux qui emprunte le sentier derrière son jardin. J'avoue que le petit commentaire comique quotidien m'a encouragé à plusieurs reprises de faire le détour pour passer par cette route là. Et ce bonhomme là, qu'est-ce-qui le motive le matin à préparer son enseigne? C'est pas une rémunération ou de la publicité, c'est réellement un geste qui vient du coeur. C'est une façon qu'il s'implique dans sa communauté et pour chaque piéton, cycliste, joggeur qui croise son affiche. Chapeau à lui pour son geste de gentilesse qui semble banal mais contribue à notre communauté.

What these two people have in common is that demonstrate a lot of heart. There daily contributions may appear small to some but their good will is immense. Giving so much with no expectation of anything in return. Sure one of them is a business owner but there are no pressure tactics when dropping by '3 Sisters Bakeshop' just a welcoming atmosphere that is elevated when Rosemary is there working. Our funny sign Samaritan doesn't have a QR code for us to donate for his daily dose of funny. He genuinely shares the gift of laughter for free everyday in the front and the back of his home. I am so grateful to these beautiful people who remind me that being a good neighbour is important and that building community is essential to a good quality of life. How lucky am I to live where I live?
